Ag Pen Pal Program

October 9th -- Deadline for Teachers and Farmers & Ranchers Sign Up
February 1st -- Start of Program for 2027

The Ag Pen Pal Program is a semester-long project that connects Wyoming classrooms with local farmers and ranchers. The goal is simple — to bridge the gap between agriculture and the consumer by bringing real-life farm and ranch experiences directly into the classroom.

Through a series of letter exchanges, students get to learn what life is like on a Wyoming farm or ranch — from caring for livestock and growing crops to the changing seasons and daily chores that keep agriculture running. In return, farmers and ranchers have the chance to share their stories, answer questions, and inspire curiosity about where our food, fiber, and fuel come from.

Each classroom is paired with a farmer or rancher in their region for one semester. Throughout the spring, they exchange two to three letters, with the option for a virtual or in-person visit at the end of the program. These letters often include fun stories, photos, questions, and personal insights that make learning about agriculture both engaging and meaningful.

By connecting Wyoming students with the people who grow and raise their food, the Ag Pen Pal Program helps build understanding and appreciation for agriculture. It’s a simple idea — one letter at a time — but it’s making a big impact in helping the next generation learn more about the heart of Wyoming: its people and its land.
